HERMOSA BEACH

Hermosa Beach is located on the coast of Los Angeles between Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach.  It is a city with a rich history dating back to the early 1900s. Its two miles of sand were acquired by deed from the Hermosa Beach Land and Water Company with deed restrictions that required the area to be preserved for the use and enjoyment of the public, without any commercial purposes.  Thus the beach is one of the gems of California's ocean frontage.

A bike path just below The Strand (which is a paved pedestrian pathway) connects Redondo Beach to Marina del Rey on the north.  Bike rentals are available in the commercial areas.

Homes and condominiums facing the ocean on The Strand are the most costly real estate in the city owing to their front yards being the sandy beach and their ocean views being unobstructable.  Narrow streets and limited parking are a concern here as in other beach communities.  Public fee-based parking is available in a structure off 11th Street.

Residential Areas

There are three distinct areas of homes in Hermosa Beach:  those near the beach, ones in the Valley area that is slightly inland near Valley Drive and Ardmore, and the area east of Pacific Coast Highway.

While multi-family residences are found in all areas of the city, most are located near the ocean where the rental market is most lucrative.

Commercial Areas

Most shopping centers are located on major arteries, the most prominent being Pacific Coast Highway, followed by Aviation Blvd., Pier Avenue and Hermosa Avenue.

Schools

Hermosa Beach has two elementary schools, one located at 1800 Prospect Avenue is for Kindergarten and Grades 1 through 2.  Grade level 3 through Grad 8 attend Hermosa Valley Elementary at 425 Valley Drive.
