Professional Accomplishments
With early commitment to the real estate profession, Donna obtained a California Real Estate Broker's license in 1981, completing the additional college-level work and rigorous license testing. Although the broker's license allows her to operate an independent real estate business and to hire and supervise other agents, Donna uses her added knowledge for the benefit of her clients. This education was identified as a factor in the selection of Donna States to serve as a paid Expert Witness in a court action during 2005.
Donna's earlier career as a senior technical writer in the aerospace industry used both her analytical and writing skills and helped develop the precise writing ability that has served her well in preparing real estate agreements. Donna wrote a newspaper real estate column for the Palos Verdes Peninsula News and edited the Lunada Bay Homeowners Newsletter for many years.
Donna has volunteered time to support and improve her profession by participating on many Board committees, including approximately 15 years on the Professional Standards, Ethics and Arbitration Committees. She also served as both President and Vice President of the local Women's Council of Realtors, which presented educational programs for the real estate community.
Donna was a member of the original of the Palos Verdes Association of Realtors committee of Realtors originally charged with overseeing and implementing computerization of the Multiple Listing Service. More recently, she has also served as the office delegate to the Coldwell Banker's Technology Group in the Greater Los Angeles Area.

Community Service
Donna volunteers time in the community in support of the local schools and medical research organizations. When her children were younger, she served as a classroom volunteer and scout leader. She also chaired a community fund-raising effort by a group of parents who collected over $100,000 in donations to fund school programs under the banner "SOS," for "Support Our Schools." The current Peninsula Education Foundation is an outgrowth of that SOS effort. It supports the Palos Verdes schools on an on-going basis. More recently Donna helped the Realtors' Association raise money to benefit the local school district. Donna also volunteers to help medical research groups in their fundraising activities.
Donna trained to become a member of PVCERT, the Community Emergency Response Team operated by the Los Angeles County Fire Department in cooperation with the County Sheriffs Department and Neighborhood Watch organizations. Continuing training and updating of skills makes this team of local volunteers available to assist residents in case of a local emergency.
As an active member of the neighborhood homeowners' association, Donna participates in setting goals and direction for the City.
